Recoil Starter for Briggs & Stratton 590588, 591139, 593959

This was a very easy replacement for my Briggs and Stratton 550ex 140cc. It only took 5 minutes to replace and was up and running. Five stars all the way.

This worked well with my mower after the old recoil fell apart on me.They take a bit to get lined up to the unfamiliar but got my mower startingon the first or second pull no problem.

Part fit, but when you pull the string it doesn't engage or return. Looking at the old and new parts I think the starter cup must changed design - mine has 45 and 90 degree edges. Saw another company selling the part with a new starter cup - it only had 90 degree edges. Owner manual states it is part 590588 using starter cup 590545. Did find a part that looks the same as what I have - Stens 150-012 Recoil Starter. It also states it replaces 590588.

Advertised to fit my Craftsman 21" B&S 550 EX but so far I have not been able to get it to recoil after each pull. It came with NO instructions though none should be necessary. This should be a simple install. Therefore I don't think it is the proper part.
