never put grease on the gears of a starter motor

It worked great once i cleaned the grease of that i put on.I thought it was proper for all moving parts but i took it to a pro shop the owner got quite a chuckle out of it .He said clean the grease off with brake cleaner and it will work fine he was right. and im thankful for a honest business owner

Three Stars

It's an OK aftermarket replacement. Not too many options with no more Tecumseh parts.

Not pretty like OEM, but gets the job done.

I bought this as a replacement for an old Tecumseh starter (80's Craftsman garden tractor, 12hp briggs). While it fits and does the job, the gear teeth produce a loud whiny sound when starting. It turns over the engine with no problem, but the teeth may be a little off or the engagement to the flywheel might be off. I didn't really look into it because I just wanted the mower to work again. It might just need some mounting adjustment. I gave three stars as I can't really say I like it. It undoubtedly does the job, but it's your typical aftermarket mass produced part.
