I did not need to remove the generator to install. Just remove 4 screws holding the generator cover. There is plenty of room to raise the cover enough to get at the starter. Better to have someone underneath to guide your hand and sockets to remove and replace 2 bolts holding the starter. Took me less than 1 hr.
